Sustainability

Journaling as a consciousness-shifting practice

We talk a lot here about the well-being benefits of regular journaling. Reflective and expressive writing -by hand, on paper - can have effects similar to meditation. It’s a mindful, self-care practice. It’s a tool for healing and growth that helps to expand our awareness and our capacity to flourish.

The insights on the page can help us get clear on our values, exercise discernment of our thoughts and decisions, and guide our actions. Consequently, powerful and healthy changes can occur within us and around us. An effective journaling practice connects us more deeply and compassionately with ourselves, and, inevitably, with others and in our communities and the world. A greater good is unleashed and magnified as we open to the innate essence and potential of who we are and the impact we want to have.

Purpose Journey Sustainability Initiatives

While we believe whole-heartedly in the transformational power and positive ripple effects of journaling (and other personal growth tools and modalities), we are acutely aware of the impact of the publishing process. Our commitment is to not simply offset the natural resources expended in the course of our mission, but to contribute to a healthier planet in a multitude of ways.

We are honored to be an official Corporate Partner with the Arbor Day Foundation, supporting its global mission of planting, nurturing and celebrating trees. As a start, we’ve committed to planting 5,000 trees to contribute to Arbor Day Foundation’s mission of planting, nurturing and celebrating trees.

As a coaching and training business, we also have an opportunity to utilize our resources to provide education and encouragement to individuals and organizations eager to live more mindfully and have a positive impact. In 2022, we will be sharing more about programs to inspire and support positive change and action.

Amazon Sustainability Initiatives

Because our writing journals are published and shipped through Amazon, we also want to be transparent about Amazon’s sustainability policies and practices. First, related to the publishing process, Amazon’s KDP Publishing service notes that environmental consciousness is important to their business practices. As a manufacture-on-demand company, they produce units – such as our writing journals - as they're ordered, which reduces excess production. The company states, “We also maintain a commitment to recycling waste materials resulting from the printing process and from daily office operations, and we will continue to review our practices to ensure we are doing our part to protect the environment.”

Here is an excerpt from the site that outlines some of the company’s key commitments to address climate change in its operations:

In 2019, Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge—a commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across our business by 2040 and to invite others to sign on to this new level of ambition. As part of our path to the Pledge, Amazon has made significant commitments toward reaching our goal.

Net-Zero Carbon. Reaching net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040.
Shipment Zero. Making 50% of all shipments net-zero carbon by 2030.
Climate Pledge Fund. Investing $2 billion to support the development of decarbonizing technologies and services.
Renewable Energy. On a path to powering our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.
Electric Delivery Vehicles. Deploying 100,000 custom electric delivery vehicles by 2030.
Right Now Climate Fund. Investing $100 million in reforestation projects and climate mitigation solutions.

How You Can Help

Support tree planting. There are many wonderful organizations doing great work in this area, however, as a starting point, we encourage you to check out the Arbor Day Foundation’s Take Action page at https://www.arborday.org/takeaction/ where you can learn about a variety of programs, purchase items (all of which plant a tree), shop for trees to be delivered to you or others to plant, make a tax-deductible donation, or become an Arbor Day Foundation member.

Purchase a journal. Make a difference. Several of our journals raise funds for causes that are important to us. We donate one dollar to environmental and conservation programs for each purchase of the Replenished by Nature journal, which features the work of internationally recognized landscape photographer Gareth Rockliffe. Order the Replenished by Nature journal here.
